"Confidence lives in your actions. It lives out in the world and it grows and gets stronger with every action you take."
Not sure if it’s just me? I’ve always found personal development courses & content interesting. I feel like there’s so much to learn and they’re always very empowering. When I chanced upon & took Mel Robbins on Confidence, it was really out of curiosity & personal interest.
However the simple yet practical tips shared by Mel make me want to remember them. And I know for a fact that if I do not take notes, I’ll definitely forget what I learnt after dinner. So, here we go:
1. Confidence is a skill created by the confidence competence loop. Get started by being willing to try and learn.
2. The 5 Second Rule
a. Bridges the gap between thinking and doing
b. Technique: Count backwards 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and action
c. How it works: Self doubt kicks in & your mind starts to works against you within 5 seconds of thinking. This technique interrupts old habits & patterns that are holding you back.
3. High 5 Your Heart
a. Body confidence: Calming your body down
b. Technique: Place both hands over chest, take a deep breath, say “I’m okay. I’m safe. I’m loved.”, repeat.
c. How it works: This activates your Vegas nerve that taps into your body’s relaxed response.
4. The High 5 Habit
a. Cut through the self-criticism & baggage to celebrate yourself
b. Technique: High 5 your reflection in the mirror after brushing your teeth
c. How it works: Activate the positive programming associated with high fiving other people to see yourself in the mirror every morning, a person that you support, celebrate, and empower.
5. Mel’s Confident Mindset Trick
a. Pick yourself up
b. Technique: Tell yourself “This moment is preparing me for something amazing that hasn’t happened yet.”
c. How it works: Ground back down into optimism & hope, and tap into that confidence that’s been inside you since you were born
