Since I finally got around to update my website banner to be more reflective of the deviation to food, I was thinking “Why not share a movie about food?”. Plus, I’ve been thinking about movies for a while because there are some movies which I really like, and want to remember.

They may not be action-packed blockbusters like the Marvel Franchise, long-running series like Harry Potter, or the well-known trilogies like The Matrix and Lord of the Rings. But they left a deep impression, tugged some heartstrings, and they’re movies I’ll recommend if anyone asks what’s your favorite movie(s).

Tying food with movies, have you heard of the movie: The Menu?

As the movie started, I was pretty impressed with the restaurant’s dedication to freshness (farm to table with a low carbon footprint), and perfection (holding themselves and each other to the highest standards). I almost thought it’s a documentary about atas restaurant food, disguised as a movie 🤭

Of course, as the introductions and tour progresses, you’ll start to sense that something is amiss. And it’s definitely not a documentary haha…

Some thoughts that come to mind are: Are they dedicated or cold? Is it perfection or rigidness? Is the ocean a provider or an impassable moat? Not to mention, every pair of diners have their own stories/secrets. Exposed when the laser engraved tacos were served.

Even though I’m not a fan of tacos, that chicken looks amazing! Wonder how it’ll taste like, and if an actual chef designed and prepared the dishes for the movie. Did all the actors/actress get to tuck in and enjoy these “eat with your eyes 1st” dishes? Another item that caught my attention is the dungeness crab dish, since I heard so much about how amazing it is 🦀

Sorry, digressed to food (again) 😆 Back to the movie. It was definitely not what I expected. The twists and turns kept me hooked on the plot. Constantly wondering what else, what’s next. I’m not going to say more/much in case I spoil the fun for folks who haven’t seen this movie yet.

I’ll just conclude by saying, while I love my desserts, I’m definitely not a fan of The Menu’s 😂 It may be dramatic, but it’s been a long time since I had (or like) fire-roasted marshmallows…

And…I sure hope the chef and team at Culina @ COMO Dempsey dont feel the same way as Julian Slowik’s team at Hawthorn do…😅
