I have mixed feelings about Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar @ Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC).

We were there for a farewell lunch and everyone ordered Onaka Restaurant’s S$28++ 3 course set lunch which includes 1 Starter, 1 Main & 1 Dessert with a choice of Coffee & Tea.

Choice of Starters

Watermelon Sashimi – Sous Vide Watermelon, Agar Wasabi “Tobiko”, Kombu, Daikon Tamari Dip

Tofu Avocado Salad – Soy Brined Tofu, Avocado, Mesclun, Walnuts, Sprouts, Hazelnut Tamari Dressing

Chilled Cream of Asparagus – Fresh Asparagus in Homemade Chicken Stock with Cream

Choice of Mains

Roasted Mushroom Soba – Roasted Mushroom Ragu, Organic Buckwheat Soba, Mushroom Dashi, Truffle Oil, Kizami Nori, Kombu

Pineapple Rice – Organic Brown Rice, Quinoa, Spices with marinated Tempeh

Stuffed Bell Peppers – White Rice, Onions, Parsley in Tomato Sauce served in Bell Pepper topped with Mozarella

Pumpkin Sea Bass – Pumpkin Seed Crusted Sea Bass, Pumpkin Mash, Haricot Vert Salad, Smoked Tomato Puree

Chicken Tikka Masala – Twice Marinated Chicken Tikka, Kasmiri Chilli Powder, Yogurt, Makhani Curry served with Homemade Naan

Chilli Crab Capellini – Capellini, House made Chilli Crab Sauce, Crab Claw, Sous Vide Egg

Choice of Desserts

Coconut Panna Cotta – Gelatin Free Coconut Custard, Tahitian Vanilla, Mango Paper, Berries served with Gula Melaka Caramel

Daily Specials – Pastries & Berries OR 100% Natural Gelato Ice Cream

Personally the choices didn’t appeal to me so I went with ordering from Onaka Restaurant’s A La Carte Menu instead. That’s how I ended up ordering Onaka’s Pear and Salmon Main.

When I said I have mixed feelings it’s because, I enjoyed the dish. But the portion is so small. We were all shocked when the dish was served. Flabbergasted more like it.

The strip of salmon is so tiny. If you compare it against the tomato, it’s almost the same height and width as the cherry tomato. I know salmon is not cheap but for S$26++ I would have expected a bigger portion.

Size aside, I really like Onaka Restaurant’s delivery of the Salmon. The outer layer is all crusty, the skin is crispy yet the inside of the Salmon is completely raw. Thumbs up.

The fries-look-alike are actually pear strips. Very creative & yummy. The egg with pumpkin seeds is nice but The Missing Pan 62 Degrees Eggs Benedict is the best! 🙂

So all in all I enjoyed Onaka Restaurant’s Pear and Salmon Main but the portion is too small for S$26++ (at least to me).

Starters

Watermelon Sashimi  – Interesting. The watermelon are really sliced and textured like sashimi. The Daikon Tamari Dip is a little weird.

Chilled Cream of Asparagus – Average and it’s really cold

Tofu Avocado Salad – Best amongst the Starters. Both in terms of taste and portion.

Mains

Chicken Tikka Masala – Nice but portion is small.

Roasted Mushroom Soba – Nice

Chilli Crab Capellini – Popular choice but none from my table ordered this so sorry no photos. But feedback is it’s good. Portion is good too. Best amongst these 3 Mains.

Desserts received average ratings. Here’s Onaka Restaurant’s Coconut Panna Cotta & Matcha Gelato.
