It’s been decades (at least 1 decade for sure) since I’ve been to the Singapore Zoo. It’s a little further and bigger than what I remembered (or maybe imagined) 🤭 Luckily the weather wasn’t too bad, having rained in the morning. In fact, we waited for the rain to stop before heading out, to spend ~5 hours at the Singapore Zoo.
There’s lots of walking and animal spotting, complete with shows and food. We managed to catch 1.5 out of 3 Singapore Zoo Presentations (as they’re named in the Mandai App). The Splash Safari, featuring California sea lion, was awesome! Wouldn’t mind watching it again. Guess this gives us a reason to plan another trip to cover the remaining 1.5 Presentations.
Besides the usual Elephant, Zebra, Lion, Giraffe, and Tiger. I was surprised to see other types of animals at the Singapore Zoo. For example, Pelican & Peacock! Why is the peacock here, and not at Bird Paradise? 🤣
Coming back to animals, when I 1st turned the corner to catch sight of the elephants, I was like “Wah, so special! Orange elephants.” Only to realize, nope. It’s because they are covered in mud 😅 Elephants are majestic creatures. But they were so far away. It felt like I’m watching them on TV.
I can understand why the Singapore Zoo is so big. I assume it’s to provide all these animals space to roam around. Conservation is a constant theme at the Singapore Zoo Presentations. Guess it’s a delicate balance between animals’ comfort and visitors’ experience.
Back to the predators and prey. High level summary: The predators are mostly just lying around, while the prey is enjoying their lunch.
Only the leopard was walking around. The lion was sitting on its rock for the longest time, while the tigers just laze around. Same for the bear.
So, it’s definitely nice to see animals doing something. It was cool seeing the tall giraffes up close, chewing on their feed. Zebras swinging their tail while eating. Rhinoceros grazing with birds. So on and so forth.
There were reptiles and Australia-native animals too. We waited for the kangaroos to hop, but nope. Just keeping their distance away from the glass.
I didn’t expect to see rabbits, horses & goats at the Singapore Zoo, but they’re here for the little ones.
Last but not least, some skillful backwards movement. Always watch your back (or your head)!
Couldn’t cover everything. And folks are getting tired. So, it was time to say bye to the Singapore Zoo, with these pelicans coming up close to bid farewell as we walked the long way out~
