Jjigae Jjigae @ VivoCity (SG)

We used to frequent The Soup Spoon in the basement of VivoCity. Their healthier options menu has something for each of us. Plus, it’s easy to find seats. Which is a big plus point! There’s usually no need to wait, and we can order in advance through their Souperholic App. Hence, we’re naturally sad when we saw that it has been replaced by Jjigae Jjigae. Why oh why, do you have to say goodbye…🤭

Walking past Jjigae Jjigae always have us wondering if it’s under Soup Spoon. Everything looks exactly the same. Even the employees are the same! 😄 But it’s definitely more crowded now that they’re serving Korean Food. Hard to find an empty table during peak hours.

So, when the opportunity arises, we decided to give Jjigae Jjigae a try. Can Korean Food be healthier, and still be nice? Time to find out! Especially since they are having an opening special: 1 for 1 Jjigae Jjigae! Yummy!

Ordering through their website (QR Code) shows that they have 2 types of Korean Stew (Jjigae):
1. Kimchi Jjigae 泡菜韩式煲 or Doenjiang Jjigae 豆酱韩式煲
2. Then you can decide if you want it to be Mala 麻辣 or not
3. And lastly, what type of meat: Chicken 滑鸡, Barramundi 金目鲈 or Beef 牛肉

1^st up is Doenjiang Jjigae with Chicken 豆酱滑鸡煲 @ S$13.9, followed by Kimchi Jjigae with Chicken 泡菜滑鸡煲@ S$13.9. Because there’s a 1 for 1 discount, our final bill adds up to just S$16.67, tax inclusive! Now, that’s a very good deal 👍

Both soup bases were okay. Doenjiang Jjigae 豆酱韩式煲 is slightly salty for me, ok for my partner. Kimchi Jjigae 泡菜韩式煲 doesn’t have the sour-spicy kick of Kimchi, but still not bad. Both Korean Stews were filled with food though. There’s always something to chew on, with every mouth of soup. Will we eat this again? Sure! Maybe I’ll try the Mala version next time 😁

By the way, Jjigae Jjigae offers free flow House-made Kimchi and Steamed Japanese Rice for Jjigae Jjigae & Samgyetang orders. If you choose to swap your rice for noodles like us, then there’ll be no refill. Which is okay for us because we were stuffed at the end of the meal.
