The thing about being a Sushi Zento member is that you’ll keep coming back for the membership perks. Like the RM1 dish with RM250 spend and free ice cream: 1 scoop per RM50 spend. Of course there’re dishes we like as well, with many more items on their menu to explore. Otherwise, it’ll just be a one-time visit like Oriental Kopi 华阳.

Did someone say free ice cream? Yes, I did! And a super value-for money RM1 dish 👍

As mentioned in my previous Sushi Zento posts, the standard of their Shake Toro Teriyaki T03 (Pan-fried Salmon Belly with Teriyaki Sauce) @ RM32 has been dropping. Even though the portion size remained small, I’m glad to report that it’s no longer as burnt. Hope it stays that way 👍

Time to try new dishes! We asked for recommendations and was offered an off the menu dish: Hamazhi Kama HI05 (Promotion) @ RM50 👍 Despite its looks, it was really good. The freshness of the yellowtail collar/cheek shone through its light seasoning.

Both Japanese skewers (Kushiyaki) we tried at Sushi Zento were good: Buta Bara Kushiyaki H02 (Pork Belly) @ RM12.5 and Ebi Mentai Kushiyaki H05 (Prawn with Cod Roe Mayonnaise) @ RM14. Do note that the “lollipop” is actually made up of 2 prawns i.e. there were 4 prawns in the Ebi Mentai Kushiyaki you see below.

Sushi Zento’s Horenso To Hotate Butter Itame R09 (Stir-fried Spinach, Hotate with Garlic Butter Sauce) @ RM19 received thumbs up from the group 👍

In case you are wondering, of course there’s sashimi! Shake Sashimi & Chinmi Santen Mori D03 (3 pcs Salmon, 3 pcs Salmon Belly, 3 Kind Seasoned Dish) @ RM44 👍

Because it is also soba, I decided to order Tempura Soba U05 (Soup Noodles with Deep-fried Prawn & Vegetables in Batter) @RM25. The tempura was really good. Crispy and lightly battered. But the soba, even though seasoning wise it’s okay, somehow it has a powdery texture, different from my favorite Cha Soba. Don’t think I’ll order it again unless I want to have warm soba 🤷‍♀️

Sushi Zento’s Kaki Furai K01 (Deep Fried Breaded Oyster) @ RM28 shrunk in size and tastes average 🤷‍♀️

Sushi, sushi. I love sushi. I used to eat 2-3 sushi as lunch when I was dieting. Goodness and satisfaction in small portions.

Hotate Mentai Sushi F17 (Scallop Topped with Seared Cod Roe Mayo) @ RM8 👍
Unagi Sushi F11 (Eel) @ RM5 🤷‍♀️
Ebi Sushi F13 (Sushi Prawn) @ RM3 each 👍
Inari Ebiko Sushi F24 (Sweet Beancurd Stuffed with Shrimp Roe) @ RM5 🤷‍♀️

Inari Chuka Hotate Sushi F27 (Sweet Beancurd Stuffed with Seasoned Scallop) @ RM5.5 🤷‍♀️
Ebi Sushi F13 (Sushi Prawn) @ RM3 each 👍
Shake Mentai Sushi F16 (Salmon Topped with Seared Cod Roe Mayo) @ RM4 👍
Hotate Mentai Sushi F17 (Scallop Topped with Seared Cod Roe Mayo) @ RM8 👍

Sushi Zento has 2 types of Takoyaki. After a disappointing 1st encounter of Sushi Zento’s “normal Takoyaki”, I decided to try their Cheese Takoyaki I12 (Deep Fried Octopus Ball with Cheese) @ RM15 👎 Cheese was the only topping. No bonito flakes and seaweed. And 1 of the Takoyaki was burnt (hidden by cheese). Disappointing.

Luckily it was just 1 bad dish among everything we ordered. Still…hopeful for a better experience next time. But no more Takoyaki.
