Din Tai Fung 鼎泰丰 (AEON MALL Tebrau City) @ Johor Bahru (JB)

A wise man once asked, did you try Din Tai Fung 鼎泰丰 chocolate xiao long bao? It’s only available in JB. I never realized! I presume he saw Panda Chocolate Bun 熊猫巧克力包 mentioned in my last visit to Din Tai Fung 鼎泰丰 (AEON MALL Tebrau City) @ Johor Bahru (JB) 🤩

This time round I decided to take a closer look at Din Tai Fung’s JB menu. There are some subtle differences between JB & Singapore’s menu e.g. JB have Ginseng Free Range Chicken Soup 人参走地鸡汤 @ RM27.59 and Assorted Rice Ball in Red Bean Soup 红豆沙汤圆 @ RM16.50. While Singapore has Steamed Truffle Chicken Soup 松露鸡汤 and Truffle Fried Rice with Eggs 松露蛋炒饭.

言归正传. 鼎泰丰马来西亚柔佛巧克力餐点大比拼: Panda Chocolate Bun 熊猫巧克力包 @ RM24.14 vs Chocolate Xiao Long Bao 巧克力小笼包@ RM16.38.

Chocolate Xiao Long Bao 巧克力小笼包@ RM16.38 has the same chocolate filling, with the thicker xiao long bao skin 🤔 I personally prefer the fluffier Panda Chocolate Bun over the thicker, chewier Chocolate Xiao Long Bao.

Wrapping up the topic of sweet dishes, and possibly a JB exclusive (or seasonal) dessert: Assorted Rice Ball in Red Bean Soup 红豆沙汤圆 @ RM16.50. It was okay, with the same thick-skin rice ball as its Peanut Rice Ball in Soya Bean 豆浆花生汤圆 cousin.

On to the main courses. My favorite 红油虾肉抄手 Spicy Shrimp & Pork Wanton @ RM18.1 (6 pieces)! I was very much looking forward to this dish…but…it’s different. It’s sweet, instead of the sourly punch I was expecting to be hit with, from its vinegar base 😢 Did the chef forget the vinegar? 🤔

Din Tai Fung’s干拌虾肉馄饨 Shrimp & Pork Wonton @ RM18.1 (6 pieces) is well received 👍

We had 鼎泰丰鸡肉小笼包 Chicken Xiao Long Bao @ RM18.1 (6 pieces). Hmmm…since I can’t say for sure, I guess it’s similar to Din Tai Fung’s Pork Xiao Long Bao 小笼包.

Even though 鼎泰丰红油虾肉抄手 was a tad disappointing, the meal is completed by its 黄金咸蛋明虾 Prawn w Salted Egg @ RM46.12 👍 Crunchy on the outside, bouncy on the inside. With a balanced flavor i.e. not too salty. Highlight of the meal!
