Yong Fa Hainanese Curry Rice & Curry Fish Head is my favorite go-to makan place in Clementi. A dear friend, who grew up in the neighborhood, drove us here for lunch and there’s no going back. Perhaps a close 2nd would be Ocean Curry Fish Head @ Toa Payoh, which we frequented in the past. But ever since we found a cigarette butt in the spinach 🤢 It’s just not the same anymore. All they did was to replace our spinach 😱
Whereas the passion and dedication of the family helming Yong Fa Hainanese Curry Rice is unparallel. We used to eat there after work, all the time. But as the lady boss ages, they’ve shortened their operations, to omit dinner. And removed 1 of my favorite dishes – mutton curry.
I still love their food, and the smiles on their face as they dish out plate after plate of yummy food. Though it’s now more of a treat, during an off-day. Do note that even though it’s stated that they are opened till 2:30pm, it’s really a while stocks last kind of situation. So, do be there early (before noon is best), and look for a stall with a L-shape snaking queue. There’s always a queue. If there isn’t, it’s most probably because they’re almost sold-out.
Yong Fa Hainanese Curry Rice & Curry Fish Head is good for solo diners looking for yummy mixed vegetable rice, drenched in yummy curry (or braised meat sauce). As well as family/friends looking to share and feast on a variety of dishes.
This is my go-to as a solo diner. Super crispy and yummy chicken cutlet, paired with 2 vegetables @ S$5+ (estimated). I asked for less rice, so the lady boss had to scoop some rice away. Usually, you won’t get rice grains stuck to the side of your plate. And of course, my rice is swimming in fish curry heaven ❤
I’ve seen folks ordering it, but I’ve never tried Yong Fa’s Curry Fish Head. I prefer the hassle-free curry sliced fish vs separating fish from bone, digging out fish cheeks etc. Best is if there’s no bone at all! 😄 Yong Fa’s Curry Sliced Fish is great for sharing, along with their amazing sambal squid (luckily my friend took a close-up photo of it)! Yummy, yummy!
